    HOW TO WITHSTAND THE STORM
    JOHN BEVERE / MAY 14, 2015

The entrance of Your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
    Psalm 119:130 NKJV

I have often told people to listen for God’s voice within my voice when I am preaching. Often we are so busy taking notes we only record everything said by the man or woman who is speaking. But mere head knowledge does not bring true understanding. Only God’s Word gives the light we need—and He wants to speak directly to us through it.

When we possess only head knowledge, two things can happen: (1) we become easily susceptible to hype or emotionalism, or (2) we become bound by our intellects. There is a deeper and surer foundation available to us.

When we listen to an anointed minister speak, or when we read a book or blog post, we should look for the words or phrases that explode in our spirits. This is the Word God is revealing to us. It conveys light and spiritual understanding. It is the entrance of His Word into our hearts, not our minds, that illuminates and clarifies.

In Matthew 16:18, Jesus compares the revealed Word of God to a rock. This speaks of stability and strength. Recall the parable of the two houses in Matthew 7:24–27. One was built on rock and the other on sand. When storms of adversity beat against both houses, the one built on sand was destroyed while the house built on rock stood strong:

…The rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:25 NKJV)

What God reveals by His Spirit is our rock. It is the foundation of all we do. Without it we will be easily shaken by trials and tribulations.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His Word to you, and for the grace to heed it. If you choose to build your life on what He says, you can withstand any storm!
